Are we there yet?

I feel like a child in a long car trip asking "Are we there yet?". Once more, you might have guessed it, I don't have a lot to report.

I think the demo guy is trying to do a dodgy on us, by saying we have asbestos under the concrete slab of the old garage. I'll be asking for proof of this, as I believe the garage would have been built not that long ago probably mid to late 80's.

The builder is still trying to get the final engineering reports, apparently one of our neighbours does not want the engineers to access their house, so they can't get the damn report done, therefore no construction certificate for us.

I have asked the builder to chase this report and they are calling me back tommorrow with an update. I think I've made it clear I'm over and want a house.

We have chosen White Smoke as our trim color, not our first choice but the closest to the look we are after. I'm sure once we are in I won't even notice it!

That's about it at the moment!

  3. Hi Belinda,

We are also building with West. This is a familiar story... we were told the smae thing about getting the engineering reports and yet we don't have neighbours the adjoining blocks are vacant.

it took us 6 weeks to get council approval and 4 months to get the certificate?????

Now we have signed the contract, it has been 5 weeks and all they have done is level the ground (this was two weeks ago)
I think this is going to be a long haul.

  4. Hi Tirsa,

Great to hear from you. We had 6 months in council with the DA being approval Mid Jan. What timeframe for the build have they given you? And which house are you building? Do you have a blog I can follow? Have they said anything about the lack of site start?

    Sorry for all the questions!

  5. Hello Bel,

West has given us 34 weeks timeframe, with a start date of 3 weeks after the contract have been signed. we are building the riverview with alterations, No I don't have a blog as yet .
They told us on Monday last week that the concreters were going to start "in the next couple of days" but so far nothing has happened. They blamed the rain for the lack of action saying they had other jobs to finish. I will be emailing them tonight, they are quite quick answering the emails and if I don't get an answer I will ring them in the afternoon.
I have been following your blog for a while now and admire your patience I am sorry the council has given you such a hard time, West. should have known what the council requirements were it is not fair. I hope West gets everything going soon for you.
Questions are quite ok I intend to ask you plenty. here goes.
When did they say they will have the contract ready? Make sure you point out to all the mistakes, we had a few, no matter how trivial it seems. We have built before and as you probably already know, anything that is not on there does not exist.
Fingers crossed and lets hope they get a move on for both of us.
    Regards
    Tirsa
